I started my 6-month internship in Business Development and Marketing in January 2023 and immediately gained exciting insights into the working world at jls digital ag. As a business student in Lucerne, the internship offered me a welcome change from the theory of my normal studies.
Practical experience
As soon as I started my internship, I was given the opportunity to get involved in large tenders for the Digital Solutions software area. This allowed me to gain my first insights into the working world. I found it particularly impressive how my work at jls deepened my understanding of the topics I had to cram in my studies beforehand. For example, the work I was doing helped me gain a deeper insight into how jls approaches marketing, which previously seemed very abstract to me in the lecture hall.
What the work involved
During my internship, I was able to take on various tasks in the area of business development and marketing. These included providing support with tenders, market research and marketing tasks such as preparing blog and internal SharePoint contributions, as well as working on various small projects where my help was needed. I particularly enjoyed the support with the submission for the Best of Swiss App Award 2023, where I was able to help prepare the submission documents.
Overall, jls provided me with a variety of experiences in the work. Although there were some repetitive tasks, each job was unique as every client had different needs and requirements. This variety taught me to be flexible and adapt to different situations. For example, the way references were prepared for one client could be completely different for another. Some preferred a detailed presentation in a predefined form, while others wanted us to prepare an aesthetically pleasing solution with a focus on the most important functionalities.
Company culture
A big advantage at jls is the flexible working hours, which enabled me to successfully combine my internship and my studies. I was able to work full time during the semester break, but only 50% during my studies, so I was still able to attend more than half of the lectures. There was also no problem taking a break during the exam periods. In addition, jls offers flexible working locations. As well as the offices in central locations in Zurich, Lucerne and Bern, there is also the option of working from home. I really enjoyed the personal contact with my colleagues in the office. Thanks to a flat hierarchy, straightforward, informal communications, and helpful colleagues, I felt that I was very much accepted into the team right from the start.
The good relationships that the employees enjoy with each other were already apparent to me before I officially started my internship, when I had the opportunity to participate in the start-up event. A number of staff events throughout the year foster contacts and celebrate successes across departments and locations. For many employees, this is an important part of the corporate culture at jls.
Summary
My inernship at jls was a fantastic career start that gave me varied work and valuable experience. I was impressed by the flexibility in terms of working hours and locations, the focus on customers as well as the inspirational corporate culture. I would like to thank jls for the trust shown in me and the opportunity to be part of this company.
